Will System Shock Wow FPS Fans Once Again?
System Shock is one of those games that really wowed people back in 1994, the sequel, System Shock 2 which was released in 1999 is regarded as one of the best FPS games of all time. BioShock is seen by many as the spiritual successor to System Shock and System Shock 2 has sold a ton more copies since being available on Steam. One interesting thing is that physical copies of System Shock 2 are now really high in demand and go for top dollar.
So why all this talk today about System Shock? That is because in 2018 there is a remake of the first System Shock game coming to PC, Xbox One and PlayStation 4! Night Dive Studios is the team behind the game and originally it was to be called System Shock Remastered, but over the last few months, they have dropped the Remastered part of the name as they are saying that while many (us included) have classed this as a remastering. It is actually more of a reboot for the series.
We have seen the trailers and it looks fantastic, with them saying that it is a reboot rather than a remake, we are very interested to see how the story unfolds in System Shock 2018. We have a feeling that the folks at Night Dive Studios are going to change things up and bit and have a bit of a new narrative going forward, which if the game sells well enough could end up with a System Shock 2 reboot/remake as well.
While there is not a ton of details on this yet, we feel with the right kind of backing, System Shock 2018 could be one of next year’s biggest hits when it comes to first person shooters.
Microtransactions Have Arrived In Call Of Duty WWII
We all knew they were coming, but Sledgehammer decided to work on fixing the various issues and bugs with the game before asking people to spend more money on it, which is kind of noble if you ask us. Of course, the debacle that was the Star Wars Battlefront II launch and the backlash with Microtransactions in regards to that probably helped their decision to delay them too.
To be honest with you, Microtransactions in Call Of Duty WWII are just like they have been the last few games. You can buy Call Of Duty points that come in packs starting with 200 for just a couple of bucks, all the way up to 13,000 which costs 100 bucks. Most people are reporting that since the update that made these go live, they have been giving 200 Call Of Duty Points for free so you might as well use them.
You can use these to buy supply drops (loot boxes) that contain items which you can use for the regular game and Zombies mode. You can, of course, spend them on other things too, but clearly, the supply drops are what Sledgehammer are hoping most people will spend them on.
If you have played Black Ops 3, Modern Warfare Remastered or Infinite Warfare, you know what to expect with these Microtransactions. They are no better or worse than what any other game is doing and you have to remember that they are totally optional so you do not have to buy them.
We knew that Microtransactions were coming to Call Of Duty WWII, but we did think that they would hold off a little longer, due to the bad press things like loot boxes and Microtransactions have at the moment.
